This family wanted to move…but we knew we could renovate and redesign, and they could love their house again! We redesigned the kitchen space, stripped away 70s-era details throughout the house, cleaned up all the millwork, and brought in a personal, family-friendly and eclectic style. For the kitchen, we added all new cabinetry and a small island chock full of storage. We also introduced a floor to ceiling shallow pantry cabinet in an otherwise unused space, and turned an awkward broom closet into a breakfast bar, with room for all the fixings for coffee and tea, as well as a second oven. We added bright, modern finishes such as frosted glass, lucite and glass subway tiles to bring some airy lightness to the space. Beyond there, we created an effective floor plan in the family room, combining plush velvets with rustic woods. We wrapped the dining room in a chunky weave grasscloth, had a custom-made trestle table topped with zinc, and sourced modern lighting from Spain. Updated, personal and stylish—no need to move!
