The typical front-to-back living room in this vintage colonial was never used! We dreamed up the idea for a “family retreat room” where this young family of four could escape the happy chaos of the rest of the house. We designed and installed a floor-to-ceiling river rock fireplace with no defined mantel but instead we inset a custom painting into the stonework. We covered the walls in linen and layered a wool and silk Tibetan carpet over a custom-cut wool sisal area rug. A pair of tufted sofas create a relaxing seating area by the fire. And a desk designed by Maven and built by Keith Fritz Fine Furniture sits positioned to enjoy the view. Where once there was a seldom used room is now a cozy and beloved space to retreat.
